B & G's #134 9/4/09
Minnesota Twins (67-66) Vs Cleveland Indians (58-75) At Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio Friday September 4Th, 2009 Carl Pavano (11-10, 5.10) Vs Jeremy Sowers (5-9, 4.8 ![]() Final Score: Cleveland 5, Minnesota 2 W- Jeremy Sowers (6-9) L- Carl Pavano (11-11) S- Kerry Wood (1 ![]() Baseballs: **Michael Brantley- Michael finished the night 2-5 and he drove in his 1st Major League RBI, hitting leadoff for the 1st time in his Major League career. Brantley is now hitting .400. **Jhonny Peralta- Jhonny finished the night 2-4 and drove in 2 runs, giving him 72 RBIs. Jhonny is now hitting .276. **Jeremy Sowers- Again, his first 4 innings was superb, but the Twins got to him in the 5Th and 6Th innings, and he escaped with minimum damage. 6 innings, giving up 2 runs (2 earned), he did not walk anyone, and struck out 4. Jeremy won his 6Th game and now has a 4.78 ERA. **Jamey Carroll- Jamey went 3-5 at the plate and he stole a base. Carroll is now hitting .295. **Travis Hafner- Pronk finished the night 1-2 with 2 walks, he drove in his 40Th run and is hitting .275. **Jose Veras- It was a bit of a risk putting him in such a close game, at the time, the Indians were up 4-2. However, Jose held his own, threw a scoreless 7Th inning and earned his 5Th hold. Veras has a 6.35 ERA. **Tony Sipp- Tony threw a scoreless 8Th inning, getting his 8Th hold, struck out 2 and now has a 3.30 ERA. **Kerry Wood- Kerry notched his 18Th save of the year, throwing a scoreless 9Th inning and now has a 4.31 ERA. **Carl Pavano- The former Indian came in and threw a quality start, his defense let him down. 6 innings, giving up 4 runs (3 earned), he walked 2 and struck out 6. Carl now has a 5.09 ERA, losing his 11Th game of the year. **Orlando Cabrera- Cabrera went 2-4 at the plate, he is hitting .276. **Brandon Harris- Brandon went 1-3 at the plate and he drove in his 33rd RBI of the season. Harris is hitting .270. **Jessie Crain- Jessie threw 2/3 of an inning, finishing off the 7Th. He walked 1, didn't strike anyone out and now has a 5.87 ERA. **Bobby Keppel- Bobby threw a scoreless 8Th inning and he now has a 5.18 ERA. Goofballs: **Twins Defense- 4 errors cost the Twins the game. Brandon Harris committed 2 errors himself, giving him 10 errors on the year. Orlando Cabrera committed his 20Th error, and Justin Morneau committed his 3rd. 4 errors cost 2 unearned runs to score. **Twins Offense- The defense wasn't the only thing that let the Twins down, their offense did too. 2 runs on 6 hits, 0 walks, and 4 strikeouts. They had no answers for the Indians pitching, they even contained Justin Morneau and Joe Mauer. **Kelly Shoppach- Struck out 3 times against his former teammate Carl Pavano. Let's just say Carl knew what to throw him. Indians record after 134 games in 2009: 59-75 Indians record after 134 games in 2008: 65-69 Indians record in one run games in 2009: 18-16 Indians Quality Starts in 2009: 59 On Deck: It was good to see Carl Pavano out there and it's also great to see the Indians, after hearing that Grady Sizemore is out for the rest of the season came out and played good, solid fundamental baseball. One thing I have noticed though is that Jeremy Sowers needs to have a lead to work with a bit because after 4 innings, it's very challenging for him to get through at least 6 innings. But I give him credit for minimizing the damage tonight. How about Michael Brantley too? The best thing about him is his plate discipline, he has yet to have a bad at bat. So, here we go, another game starts at 4:10 PM tomorrow afternoon, no TV, so it will only be on WTAM 1100-AM. Scott Baker (12-7, 4.44) gets the start, and we know he is tough against the Indians. He will be opposed by Justin Masterson (4-6, 4.57), so it will be a challenge, but let's get the win and take the series. |

Brantley has been fantastic.
My fear is that he will make Sizemore tradeable. |
